Take a home\u00a0pregnancy test. If it\u2019s positive, call our office to schedule a pregnancy confirmation visit. These\u00a0are usually scheduled 6-8 weeks from your last cycle. If your pregnancy test is negative, you\u00a0may need a gynecologic evaluation to determine why your cycle is late. Please call our office to\u00a0schedule an appointment.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;What should I expect during my pregnancy confirmation visit?&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.0&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>On your first visit, you will have an ultrasound in our office followed by a visit with your doctor. If\u00a0you\u2019re new to the practice, you\u2019ll meet your doctor. We will discuss your past and current\u00a0medical history, medications you\u2019re taking, and answer questions along with any\u00a0concerns you may have. You will also have a chance to schedule the rest of your visits.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;How many office visits will I have?&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Confirmation to 28 weeks gestation \u2013 Every 4 weeks<br \/>28 to 36 weeks gestation \u2013 Every 2 to 3 weeks<br \/>36 to 40 weeks gestation \u2013 Every week<br \/>There are several reasons why a patient might need to be seen more frequently. In these cases,\u00a0a custom schedule will be created for you.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;What should I expect during my prenatal visits?&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.0&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>At each visit, we will collect vital signs, a urine sample, and ask a standard series of questions\u00a0designed to assess changes in risk to the pregnancy. We will listen for the baby\u2019s heartbeat\u00a0using a doppler. At some visits, you\u2019ll have an ultrasound so we\u2019ll be able to see the heart\u00a0beating.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;How many ultrasounds will I have?&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Most patients have 3 ultrasounds. One at the pregnancy confirmation, one at 20 weeks to look\u00a0at the baby\u2019s anatomy and sex (the \u201canatomy scan\u201d), and one at 36 weeks to confirm the baby\u2019s\u00a0position and check the fluid level (Amniotic Fluid Index).\u00a0Some patients require more ultrasounds. They\u2019re both open 24 hours a day and are equipped to deal with most emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;What should I do as I near my due date?&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.0&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Please register at the hospital.<\/li>\n<li>Pack your hospital bag. You don\u2019t need much. The hospital is equipped with everything<br \/>you need. However, many patients bring comforts from home: their toiletries, pillows, blankets,<br \/>and clothes.<\/li>\n<li>Fit and secure an infant car seat.<\/li>\n<li>Find a pediatrician. The hospital pediatricians see all of the newborn babies, but you will<br \/>need to make an appointment with your chosen pediatrician for your baby before you are<br \/>discharged from the hospital.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;What do I do when I\u2019m in labor or if my water broke?&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.0&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Go to Memorial Hermann the Woodlands Medical Center Labor and Delivery. The nursing staff will check your cervix regularly and give your doctor or the on-call doctor updates. When it\u2019s time for delivery, the staff will call us, and we will come to help you bring your baby into the world!<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Who will deliver my baby?&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.0&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Your doctor will try hard to be the one to deliver your baby. In some circumstances, however, your doctor may not be available. There\u2019s a lot to do in the first few hours and days after a baby is born. Most patients stay in the hospital for a day or two and during that time the staff will walk you through everything that needs to happen before it\u2019s time to go home. Some patients are seen much sooner than others. Our Patient Financial Counselors will work with you to develop your budget and help you understand your financial responsibilities during your pregnancy. Below is a list of common<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>ailments with approved over the counter (OTC) remedies.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Headache: Tylenol or Extra-Strength Tylenol<\/li>\n<li>Minor sore throat: Chloraseptic spray\/gargle<\/li>\n<li>Head cold\/sinus: Benadryl or Drixoral Cough: Robitussin (plain)<\/li>\n<li>Hemorrhoids: Tuck pads, Anusol or Preparation H<\/li>\n<li>Constipation: Prunes, Milk of Magnesia, or Stool Softener<\/li>\n<li>Indigestion\/Heartburn: Mylanta or Sodium-free Tums, Pepcid, or Omeprazole<\/li>\n<li>Diarrhea: Clear liquids for 24 hours (7-Up, Sprite, Ginger Ale). Advance to bananas, rice,\u00a0applesauce and toast as symptoms start to improve. Once the diarrhea has stopped, resume a\u00a0regular diet. Imodium, an over-the-counter medication, may be taken.<\/li>\n<li>Morning Sickness: Vitamin B6 50 mg twice a day with half of a nighttime sleep aid ( doxylamine) at bedtime<\/li>\n<li>Minor swelling: Reduce salt intake and elevate feet as often as possible<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>If any of these symptoms persist or are accompanied by fever, please call the office.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;What if I need dental work during my pregnancy?&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.0&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;on&#8221;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 4\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><span>Routine dental care is permitted and encouraged. Routine X-rays should be postponed until after delivery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Non-elective dental problems should be addressed during pregnancy as needed. If x-ray is indicated, an abdominal shield can be used.
